Artist Statement
Art has always been central to my life—whether through my own practice or in my support of fellow artists I believe that engaging thoughtfully with the arts, across disciplines, is vital for the kind of visioning we all need to navigate and reimagine the world.
My Artistic Practice
My work draws heavily on the notion of horizons, an idea deeply rooted in my upbringing near the beach. Observing the ebb and flow of tides, the interplay of earth and sky, and the constant motion of the ocean shaped my understanding of balance and transition. The horizon manifests in my art through the division of the canvas into three parts, symbolizing the negotiation between land and sky, dusk and dawn. This connection serves as a metaphor for hope: no matter the turmoil of the day, a new dawn brings opportunities for renewal and growth.
I approach my work with deliberate choices in color and composition. My collages often combine an abstract ground with an overlay of contrasting elements, reflecting my fascination with how different forms and hues interact. Collage has become fundamental to my creative process—it allows me to experiment with structure and balance in a small format before expanding to larger works. Growing up with a father in the textile business, I was surrounded by swatches of fabric, which inspired my love for texture and layering. These experiences influenced my approach to combining disparate materials into cohesive expressions.
